Wilmington is a city located in Clinton County, Ohio, the United States. It is in southwestern Ohio, about 35 miles northeast of Cincinnati, 45 miles southeast of Dayton, and approximately 35 miles southwest of Columbus. Wilmington lies at approximately 39.445° North latitude and 83.828° West longitude. The city had 12,661 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 10.80 square miles, or 27.97 square kilometers. Wilmington was founded in the early 19th century and incorporated in 1833. It became the county seat of Clinton County and developed as a regional center for agriculture, trade, education, and government. Wilmington College, founded in 1865 by the Religious Society of Friends, is one of the city's best-known institutions. The surrounding countryside includes farmland, wooded areas, streams, and rolling terrain typical of southwestern Ohio.
