Wood Dale is a city located in DuPage County, Illinois, the United States. It is in northeastern Illinois, about 20 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, 5 miles southeast of Elgin, and approximately 5 miles north of Addison. Wood Dale lies at approximately 41.963° North latitude and 87.978° West longitude. The city had 13,447 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 4.96 square miles, or 12.85 square kilometers. Wood Dale was incorporated in 1923 and grew from a rural farming community into a suburban city as the Chicago metropolitan area expanded. Transportation played an important role in its development, with railroad connections and later highways helping connect the community to Chicago and nearby suburbs. Today, Wood Dale combines residential neighborhoods with commercial and industrial areas.
