Yorkville is a city located in Kendall County, Illinois, the United States. It is in northeastern Illinois along the Fox River, about 45 miles west of downtown Chicago, 15 miles southwest of Aurora, and approximately 20 miles east of Plano. Yorkville lies at approximately 41.641° North latitude and 88.447° West longitude. The city had 22,594 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 21.48 square miles, or 55.64 square kilometers. Yorkville was settled in the 1830s and incorporated in 1859. It became the county seat of Kendall County and developed as an agricultural, commercial, and transportation center along the Fox River. The river played an important role in the community's early development and remains an important part of Yorkville's recreational landscape. Today, Yorkville includes historic neighborhoods, expanding residential areas, local businesses, schools, parks, and riverfront recreation.
