It is the county seat of Coshocton County and lies about 70 miles northeast of Columbus, 45 miles east of Mount Vernon, and about 80 miles south of Cleveland. Coshocton is located at approximately 40.2720° North latitude and 81.8596° West longitude. The city covers about 5.97 square miles (15.46 sq km) and had 11,682 residents in the 2020 Census.
