Covington is a city located in King County, Washington, the United States. It lies about 30 miles southeast of downtown Seattle, 10 miles southeast of Kent, and roughly 8 miles east of Auburn. Covington is located at approximately 47.3582° North latitude and 122.1004° West longitude. The city covers about 15.83 square miles (41.00 sq km) and had 20,777 residents in the 2020 Census. The area has a Pacific Northwest landscape with evergreen trees, rolling hills, streams, and residential neighborhoods. Covington was incorporated as a city in 1997 after growing from a rural community into a suburban area. The city developed quickly as the southeastern part of the Seattle metropolitan area expanded. Covington Community Park is a major local recreation area, while nearby Lake Meridian offers opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating. Mount Rainier can also be seen from several elevated locations in and around the city.
