Dover is a city located in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, the United States. The city is situated in the Tuscarawas Valley along the Tuscarawas River, about 25 miles south of Canton and approximately 30 miles east of New Philadelphia. Dover lies at about 40.52° North latitude and 81.47° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,565 residents. The city covers approximately 5.90 square miles (15.28 square kilometers), including about 5.82 square miles of land and 0.08 square miles of water. Dover was founded in 1807 and incorporated in 1859. Its early development was influenced by the Ohio and Erie Canal, which passed through the area and helped expand trade and transportation. Today, Dover has a historic downtown and several nearby cultural attractions. The Warther Museum and Gardens in neighboring Dover is known for handcrafted woodcarvings and railroad-related displays.
