It lies in north-central Ohio, about 15 miles southeast of Mansfield, 25 miles west of Mount Vernon, and roughly 60 miles northeast of Columbus. Galion is positioned at approximately 40.734° North latitude and 82.790° West longitude. The city covers about 8.76 square miles, or 22.69 square kilometers. The 2020 Census recorded 9,789 residents. Galion grew as a railroad and industrial community during the 19th century, and rail transportation played an important role in its development.
