It lies in northeastern Ohio along the Mahoning River, about 7 miles northwest of Youngstown and roughly 15 miles southeast of Warren. The city is part of the Mahoning Valley and is close to the Pennsylvania state line. Girard is located at approximately 41.154° North latitude and 80.701° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,920 residents. The city covers about 5.19 square miles, or 13.44 square kilometers, with most of the area consisting of land. Girard developed as a residential and industrial community during the growth of the Mahoning Valley's steel and manufacturing industries.
