Where is Greenville Located?

Greenville is a city located in Butler County, Alabama, the United States. It lies in south-central Alabama, about 45 miles southwest of Montgomery and roughly 80 miles north of Mobile. Greenville is the county seat of Butler County and sits near the Conecuh River in the southern part of the state. The city is located at approximately 31.829° North latitude and 86.618° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,374 residents. Greenville covers about 26.0 square miles, or 67.3 square kilometers, including land and water. The community was founded in the 1820s and became an important railroad center after the Louisville and Nashville Railroad reached the area. Greenville is known as the Camellia City because of its long association with the camellia flower. The Camellia City Festival is a well-known annual event. Historic downtown buildings, the Greenville-Butler County Public Library, and nearby outdoor areas highlight the city's heritage. Interstate 65 also provides a major north-south transportation route through the area.
