Greenville is a city located in Darke County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in western Ohio, about 35 miles northwest of Dayton and roughly 40 miles east of Richmond, Indiana. Greenville is the county seat of Darke County and serves as a regional center for agriculture, business, education, and government. The city is located at approximately 40.102° North latitude and 84.634° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 12,786 residents. Greenville covers about 6.66 square miles, or 17.25 square kilometers, and is primarily land. The community was founded in 1808 and named after General Nathanael Greene, a commander in the American Revolutionary War. Greenville grew as a regional trading and agricultural center, with its historic downtown reflecting that development. Garst Museum is one of the city's best-known attractions and includes the Annie Oakley Center. The city is also home to the Darke County Fairgrounds and the annual Darke County Fair.
