It lies in northwestern Alabama, about 35 miles southeast of Tupelo, Mississippi, and roughly 70 miles northwest of Birmingham. Hamilton is the county seat of Marion County and sits near the Buttahatchee River and several wooded upland areas. The city is located at approximately 34.143° North latitude and 87.989° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 2,692 residents. Hamilton covers about 38.08 square miles, or 98.63 square kilometers, including land and water. The community was established in the 19th century and incorporated in 1896.
