Kenton is a city located in Hardin County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in west-central Ohio, about 60 miles northwest of Columbus and roughly 45 miles south of Findlay. Kenton serves as the county seat of Hardin County and is surrounded by fertile farmland and small rural communities. The city is located at approximately 40.647° North latitude and 83.610° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,262 residents. Kenton covers about 5.09 square miles, or 13.18 square kilometers. The community was founded in the early 19th century and named for frontier explorer Simon Kenton. It grew as an agricultural, commercial, and transportation center for the surrounding region. The Hardin County Courthouse is a prominent landmark in the center of Kenton and reflects the city's role as the county seat. Downtown Kenton includes historic buildings, local businesses, and community facilities. The city also has several parks and recreational areas for residents.
