Mapleton is a city located in Utah County, Utah, the United States. It lies in central Utah at the eastern edge of Utah Valley, about 8 miles south of Provo and roughly 45 miles south of Salt Lake City. Mapleton is located at approximately 40.130° North latitude and 111.579° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 11,365 residents, and the city covers about 12.38 square miles (32.06 sq km). Mapleton was settled in the 1850s and incorporated as a city in 1948. Early settlers developed farms, orchards, and irrigation systems using water from the nearby mountains. The city remains closely connected to the Wasatch Mountain landscape, with steep slopes rising immediately east of the community. Maple Mountain is one of the most recognizable natural landmarks in the area and provides a dramatic backdrop to the city. Mapleton is also near the Spanish Fork River and several canyons that lead into the Wasatch Range.
