Maumee is a city located in Lucas County, Ohio, the United States. It lies along the Maumee River in northwestern Ohio, about 8 miles southwest of Toledo and roughly 50 miles southeast of Detroit, Michigan. Maumee is located at approximately 41.563° North latitude and 83.653° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 13,389 residents, and the city covers about 10.61 square miles (27.48 sq km). Maumee was settled in the early 19th century and incorporated as a city in 1854. Its location along the Maumee River made it an important center for river transportation, trade, and commerce. The community was also influenced by the Miami and Erie Canal, which connected the Great Lakes region with the Ohio River system. Maumee's historic downtown contains buildings and streets that reflect its early development as a river town.
