Medina is a city located in Medina County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in northeastern Ohio, about 35 miles south of Cleveland and roughly 20 miles west of Akron. Medina is located at approximately 41.138° North latitude and 81.864° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 26,094 residents, and the city covers about 12.00 square miles (31.08 sq km). Medina was founded in 1816 and incorporated as a village in 1835 before becoming a city in 1952. It serves as the county seat of Medina County and developed as a center for government, trade, and transportation in the region. The city's historic Public Square is one of its most recognizable features, surrounded by preserved 19th-century commercial buildings and civic landmarks. Medina's location between Cleveland and Akron helped it grow as suburban development expanded across northeastern Ohio.
