Mentor-on-the-Lake is a city located in Lake County, Ohio, the United States. It sits directly along the southern shore of Lake Erie, about 25 miles northeast of downtown Cleveland and roughly 40 miles west of Ashtabula. Mentor-on-the-Lake is located at approximately 41.707° North latitude and 81.361° West longitude. The city covers about 1.68 square miles, including a small amount of water, and is almost completely surrounded by the city of Mentor except along its Lake Erie shoreline. Mentor-on-the-Lake developed as a lakefront residential community during the 20th century and was incorporated as a village in 1971 before becoming a city in 1973. Its location beside Lake Erie has shaped the community's identity and provides residents with access to waterfront recreation. The city is primarily residential, with neighborhoods, local businesses, parks, and community facilities. Mentor-on-the-Lake Park provides green space and recreational facilities near the shoreline.
