Evergreen is roughly 30 miles east, while Atmore is about 45 miles southwest. Monroeville is positioned near 31.527° North latitude and 87.324° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,951 residents. The city covers about 13.82 square miles, or 35.79 square kilometers, of land. The Monroe County Courthouse is one of its most famous landmarks because of its connection to Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Monroeville is also associated with author Truman Capote, who spent part of his childhood in the community.
