Nephi is a city located in Juab County, Utah, the United States. It lies in central Utah at the eastern edge of the Juab Valley, about 80 miles south of Salt Lake City and about 35 miles south of Provo. Payson is roughly 20 miles north, while Mona is about 15 miles north. Nephi is positioned near 39.711° North latitude and 111.837° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,389 residents. The city covers about 4.86 square miles, or 12.59 square kilometers, of land and water. The Wasatch Range rises east of the city and provides a striking backdrop and access to outdoor recreation. Nephi is also near the Little Sahara Recreation Area, known for its large sand dunes and off-road trails. The city was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1851 and was named after Nephi, a figure in the Book of Mormon. A unique fact about Nephi is that it sits along a major north-south transportation route through Utah and has long served as a gateway between the Wasatch Front and central Utah.
