New Franklin is a city located in Summit County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in northeast Ohio, about 8 miles southwest of downtown Akron and roughly 15 miles northwest of Canton. Green is about 10 miles south, while Barberton is around 8 miles northwest. New Franklin is positioned near 40.950° North latitude and 81.532° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 14,387 residents. The city covers about 26.36 square miles, or 68.27 square kilometers, including land and water. The Portage Lakes area is one of the city's best-known geographic features, with several connected lakes surrounded by wooded hills and residential communities. Portage Lakes State Park provides boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, and other outdoor activities. New Franklin was formed through the merger of several townships and villages and became a city in 1998.
