Oxford is a city located in Butler County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in southwestern Ohio, about 35 miles northwest of Cincinnati and roughly 30 miles southwest of Dayton. Hamilton is around 15 miles southeast, while Middletown is about 25 miles northeast. Oxford is positioned near 39.506° North latitude and 84.745° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 23,035 residents. The city covers about 6.35 square miles, or 16.45 square kilometers. Oxford is best known as the home of Miami University, one of the oldest public universities in the United States. The university's historic campus and Uptown Oxford form the center of community life. Hueston Woods State Park lies just north of the city and offers hiking, boating, fishing, camping, and wooded scenery. Oxford was incorporated as a village in 1810 and became a city in 1971. A unique fact about the city is its strong connection to Miami University, which was founded in 1809, more than a century before Oxford became a city.
