Painesville is a city located in Lake County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in northeastern Ohio near Lake Erie, about 30 miles northeast of Cleveland and roughly 35 miles west of Ashtabula. Mentor is around 10 miles west, while Chardon is about 15 miles south. Painesville is positioned near 41.725° North latitude and 81.245° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 19,768 residents. The city covers about 7.01 square miles, or 18.16 square kilometers. Painesville developed as an early commercial and transportation center along the Grand River and later grew through manufacturing and industry.
