Where is Piqua Located?
Piqua is a city located in Miami County, Ohio, the United States. It sits along the Great Miami River in western Ohio, about 25 miles north of Dayton and roughly 25 miles south of Sidney. Troy is around 8 miles south, while Tipp City is about 12 miles south. Piqua is positioned near 40.145° North latitude and 84.243° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 20,022 residents. The city covers about 11.97 square miles, or 31.00 square kilometers. Piqua developed as a river, canal, and manufacturing community, with the Great Miami River and Miami and Erie Canal playing important roles in its early growth. The city became an important center for textile manufacturing and other industries during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, historic buildings and museums preserve parts of that industrial heritage. Johnston Farm & Indian Agency, located just outside Piqua, documents the area's early settlement and the history of the Shawnee people. The Piqua Historic District includes older homes, churches, commercial buildings, and civic landmarks. A unique fact about the city is its close connection to the Miami and Erie Canal, which once linked Lake Erie with the Ohio River.
