Where is Powell Located?
Powell is a city located in Delaware County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in central Ohio within the northern part of the Columbus metropolitan area, about 15 miles north of downtown Columbus and roughly 10 miles west of Delaware. Dublin is around 10 miles southwest, while Westerville is about 10 miles southeast. Powell is positioned near 40.158° North latitude and 83.076° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 14,701 residents. The city covers about 5.69 square miles, or 14.74 square kilometers. Powell was settled in the early 19th century and was originally known as Middlebury. The community later took the name Powell after Thomas Powell, an early landowner and local leader. The historic downtown area preserves buildings and streets that reflect the community's early development. A major attraction nearby is the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, located just north of the city and known for its extensive animal exhibits and conservation programs. Powell is also close to several parks and trails along the Scioto River and Big Walnut Creek.
