It lies along the Yakima River in the lower Yakima Valley of south-central Washington, about 40 miles northwest of Kennewick and roughly 50 miles east of Yakima. Richland is around 35 miles northeast, while Sunnyside is about 20 miles southeast. Prosser is positioned near 46.206° North latitude and 119.769° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,284 residents. The city covers about 4.58 square miles, or 11.86 square kilometers. Prosser was founded in 1885 by William Farrand Prosser and incorporated in 1899.
