Saint Marys is a city located in Auglaize County, Ohio, the United States. It lies in west-central Ohio along the St. Marys River, about 15 miles southwest of Lima and roughly 35 miles northwest of Sidney. Wapakoneta is around 10 miles southeast, while Celina is about 25 miles northwest. Saint Marys is positioned near 40.549° North latitude and 84.389° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,697 residents. The city covers about 5.71 square miles, or 14.79 square kilometers. Saint Marys was founded in 1823 and incorporated in 1834. Its early growth was linked to the Miami and Erie Canal, which passed through the community and helped establish it as a transportation and commercial center. Later, railroads and manufacturing supported continued development. A unique feature of Saint Marys is its close connection to Grand Lake St. Marys, one of Ohio's largest inland lakes.
