Where is Salem Located?
Salem is a city located in Utah County, Utah, the United States. It lies in central Utah at the southern end of Utah Valley, about 15 miles south of Provo and roughly 50 miles south of Salt Lake City. Spanish Fork is around 5 miles north, while Payson is about 5 miles southwest. Salem is positioned near 40.056° North latitude and 111.673° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,031 residents. The city covers about 5.79 square miles, or 15.00 square kilometers. Salem was settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1850s and incorporated in 1949. The community developed as an agricultural settlement supported by irrigation, orchards, farms, and livestock operations. Its location at the base of the Wasatch Mountains provides views of rugged mountain slopes to the east and open farmland across Utah Valley. A unique feature of Salem is Salem Pond, a small natural and recreational lake near the center of the community that is used for fishing, boating, picnicking, and winter recreation. Nearby attractions include Salem Pond, Payson Lakes, Nebo Loop Scenic Byway, and Spanish Fork River Park. Mount Nebo, the highest peak in the Wasatch Range, rises nearby and provides hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, and scenic mountain drives.
