Vandalia is a city located in Montgomery County, Ohio, the United States. It is in the Miami Valley of southwestern Ohio, about 10 miles north of downtown Dayton and roughly 15 miles west of Springfield. The city lies at approximately 39.891° North latitude and 84.198° West longitude. Vandalia had 15,209 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 12.34 square miles, or 31.96 square kilometers. The Great Miami River runs near the city and is an important geographic feature in the surrounding area. Vandalia was founded in 1838 and became a city in 1959. Its location next to Dayton International Airport has helped make aviation an important part of the local economy and identity.
