Waterville is a city located in Lucas County, Ohio, the United States. It is in northwestern Ohio along the Maumee River, about 15 miles southwest of Toledo and roughly 45 miles southeast of Detroit, Michigan. Waterville lies at approximately 41.500° North latitude and 83.718° West longitude. The city had 5,342 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 5.86 square miles, or 15.18 square kilometers. Waterville was settled in the early 19th century and incorporated as a village in 1882. The community grew along the Maumee River and benefited from the Miami and Erie Canal, which helped move goods through the region during the 19th century. The river remains an important feature of the city, while nearby Farnsworth Metropark provides trails, wetlands, wildlife areas, and scenic river views. Waterville's historic downtown includes older buildings and landmarks connected to its early development.
