Willoughby Hills is a city located in Lake County, Ohio, the United States. It is in northeastern Ohio, about 17 miles northeast of downtown Cleveland, 5 miles west of Willoughby, and approximately 10 miles south of Lake Erie. Willoughby Hills lies at approximately 41.598° North latitude and 81.443° West longitude. The city had 10,021 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 10.22 square miles, or 26.47 square kilometers. Willoughby Hills was incorporated as a city in 1950 and developed from rural settlements as the Cleveland metropolitan area expanded eastward. The community is characterized by wooded hills, ravines, streams, and suburban neighborhoods. Its landscape is part of the Chagrin River watershed, with several natural areas providing opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife observation. The nearby North Chagrin Reservation is one of the area's most important outdoor destinations, with trails, forests, wetlands, and the historic Squire's Castle.
