Where is Zanesville Located?

Zanesville is a city located in Muskingum County, Ohio, the United States. It is in east-central Ohio along the Muskingum River, about 55 miles east of Columbus, 50 miles west of Cambridge, and approximately 25 miles south of Coshocton. Zanesville lies at approximately 39.940° North latitude and 82.013° West longitude. The city had 24,765 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 12.43 square miles, or 32.19 square kilometers. Zanesville was founded in 1800 by Ebenezer Zane and incorporated as a city in 1850. The city developed at the confluence of the Muskingum and Licking rivers and became an important transportation center because of canals, railroads, and later highways. Zanesville became especially well known for its pottery industry, with numerous potteries operating in the region during the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, the city has a historic downtown, riverfront parks, museums, cultural attractions, and a diverse manufacturing and service economy. Nearby attractions include the Y-Bridge, National Road-Zane Grey Museum, Zanesville Museum of Art, and Dillon State Park. The Muskingum River provides opportunities for boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Interstate 70 passes just south of the city and provides major transportation connections to Columbus, Wheeling, and other communities across eastern Ohio.
