Anacortes is a city located in Skagit County, Washington, the United States. The city is situated on Fidalgo Island along the Salish Sea in northwestern Washington. It is approximately 18 miles (29 km) west of Mount Vernon, 80 miles (129 km) north of Seattle, and about 90 miles (145 km) south of Vancouver, British Columbia. Anacortes is located at 48.5126° North latitude and 122.6127° West longitude. According to the 2020 United States Census, the city had a population of 17,013. Anacortes covers approximately 15.79 square miles (40.90 sq km). The city is best known as the gateway to the San Juan Islands, with ferry services connecting travelers to several island communities and recreational destinations.
