Clanton is a city located in Chilton County, Alabama, the United States. It is about 50 miles south of Birmingham and 50 miles north of Montgomery. Clanton is located at approximately 32.8387° North latitude and 86.6292° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,866 residents, and the city covers about 21.42 square miles (55.48 sq km). Clanton serves as the county seat of Chilton County and is located in an area known for peach orchards and other agricultural production. The city was incorporated in 1872 and was named after Confederate General James H. Clanton. Its location along Interstate 65 makes it an important stopping point between Birmingham and Montgomery.
