DuPont is a city located in Pierce County, Washington, the United States. It is situated in the South Sound region between Tacoma and Olympia, about 10 miles south of Tacoma and 30 miles northeast of Olympia. DuPont lies at approximately 47.10° North latitude and 122.63° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 10,151 residents. The city covers about 5.25 square miles (13.60 square kilometers), with approximately 5.08 square miles of land and 0.17 square miles of water. DuPont was incorporated in 1912 and developed around the explosives manufacturing industry established by the E. I. du Pont de Nemours company. The former industrial site later became the foundation for a modern planned community. The city is close to the Nisqually River and Puget Sound, giving it access to wetlands, forests, and coastal landscapes. Nearby attractions include the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, and Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
