It lies in southeastern Michigan along the Huron River, about 25 miles southwest of downtown Detroit, 12 miles north of Monroe, and roughly 15 miles southeast of Ann Arbor. Flat Rock is positioned at approximately 42.097° North latitude and 83.291° West longitude. The city covers about 6.72 square miles, or 17.40 square kilometers, of land and water. The 2020 Census recorded 10,541 residents, while the recent population estimate is about 10,600. Flat Rock stands at an elevation of roughly 600 feet above sea level.
