The 2020 Census recorded 9,479 residents. The city covers about 2.75 square miles, or 7.12 square kilometers, including land and water. The community developed as a residential lakeside suburb of Detroit and incorporated as a city in 1934. Its shoreline and historic residential character are central to its identity. The Grosse Pointe Farms Pier and waterfront parks provide access to Lake St. Clair and views across the water.
