Guntersville is a city located in Marshall County, Alabama, the United States. It lies in northeastern Alabama along the southern shore of Lake Guntersville, about 40 miles southeast of Huntsville and roughly 35 miles southwest of Scottsboro. The city is part of the Tennessee Valley and sits near the Tennessee River, with the Appalachian foothills rising to the east. Guntersville is located at approximately 34.358° North latitude and 86.294° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,553 residents. The city covers about 42.58 square miles, or 110.28 square kilometers, including land and water. Guntersville was incorporated in 1848 and developed as an important river, railroad, and commercial center. Its location beside Lake Guntersville has made boating, fishing, and other water activities important parts of the local economy and recreation scene.
