Hoquiam is a city located in Grays Harbor County, Washington, the United States. It lies on the southern shore of Grays Harbor, about 105 miles west of Olympia and roughly 125 miles southwest of Tacoma. Hoquiam is part of the Grays Harbor region and sits near the Pacific Ocean on Washington's central coast. The city is located at approximately 46.980° North latitude and 123.890° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,776 residents. Hoquiam covers about 15.60 square miles, or 40.40 square kilometers. The city developed around the timber industry, fishing, shipping, and the harbor, which remain important parts of its history. Nearby beaches and coastal forests provide opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, fishing, and exploring the Pacific shoreline. A unique feature of Hoquiam is its location beside one of Washington's largest coastal estuaries and its long connection to the region's historic timber industry.
