Howell is a city located in Livingston County, Michigan, the United States. It lies in southeastern Michigan, about 40 miles west of Detroit and roughly 35 miles east of Lansing. Howell is the county seat of Livingston County and is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn metropolitan area. The city is located at approximately 42.607° North latitude and 83.929° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 10,068 residents. Howell covers about 4.90 square miles, or 12.69 square kilometers. Its historic downtown features well-preserved commercial buildings and the Livingston County Courthouse, which reflect the city's long civic history.
