Marion is a city located in Marion County, South Carolina, the United States. It lies in the Pee Dee region of northeastern South Carolina, about 55 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach and roughly 40 miles east of Florence. Marion is located at approximately 34.178° North latitude and 79.401° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,839 residents, and the city covers about 4.44 square miles (11.50 sq km). Marion was incorporated in 1847 and became the county seat of Marion County. The community grew as a regional center for farming, trade, and transportation. Agriculture has long shaped the surrounding landscape, with farms, forests, and waterways extending beyond the city.
