Where is Marquette Located?
Marquette is a city located in Marquette County, Michigan, the United States. It lies on the southern shore of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, about 160 miles northwest of Sault Ste. Marie and roughly 45 miles west of Munising. Marquette is located at approximately 46.544° North latitude and 87.395° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 20,629 residents, and the city covers about 19.45 square miles (50.38 sq km). Marquette was incorporated as a city in 1879 and grew rapidly during the development of the Upper Peninsula's iron industry. The city's harbor became an important shipping point for iron ore from nearby mines, connecting the region with Great Lakes markets. Today, Marquette combines a historic waterfront and downtown with a strong outdoor recreation culture.
