Mason is located at approximately 42.579° North latitude and 84.443° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,653 residents, and the city covers about 6.26 square miles (16.21 sq km). Mason was founded in 1836 and incorporated in 1865. It serves as the county seat of Ingham County and developed as a center for farming, trade, government, and local commerce. The city was named for Stevens T. Mason, Michigan's first elected governor.
