Rockford is a city located in Kent County, Michigan, the United States. It lies in western Michigan along the Rogue River, about 15 miles north of downtown Grand Rapids and roughly 35 miles east of Muskegon. Cedar Springs is around 8 miles north, while Grand Rapids is about 15 miles south. Rockford is positioned near 43.120° North latitude and 85.560° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,142 residents. The city covers about 3.23 square miles, or 8.37 square kilometers. Rockford was settled in the 1840s and incorporated as a village in 1866 before becoming a city in 1931. Its early growth was closely connected to the Rogue River, which powered mills and supported local industry. The river remains a defining feature of the community and runs through the historic downtown area. A unique feature of Rockford is its strong connection to the White Pine Trail, a major multi-use trail that passes through the city and follows a former railroad route north toward Cadillac.
