It lies in the northern Yakima Valley along the Naches River, about 6 miles north of Yakima and roughly 70 miles southeast of Ellensburg. The city is approximately 150 miles east of Seattle by road. Selah is located at 46.6540° North latitude and 120.5306° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,147 residents. The city covers about 4.67 square miles (12.10 square kilometers), with most of the area consisting of land. Orchards are a major part of the surrounding landscape, especially apple orchards that have made the Yakima Valley an important fruit-growing region. The Naches River is a major geographic feature near the city. A unique feature of Selah is its location near the Selah Cliffs and the entrance to the scenic Yakima River Canyon.
