It lies in the lower Yakima Valley of south-central Washington, about 45 miles southeast of Yakima and roughly 40 miles northwest of Pasco. Grandview is about 10 miles east, while Prosser is approximately 20 miles southeast of Sunnyside. The city is located at 46.3240° North latitude and 119.9706° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 19,509 residents. Sunnyside covers about 7.38 square miles, or approximately 19.11 square kilometers. The Yakima River and extensive irrigation canals have made the surrounding valley one of Washington's important agricultural regions.
