Sylacauga is a city located in Talladega County, Alabama, the United States. It lies in central Alabama near the southern foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, about 50 miles southeast of Birmingham and roughly 45 miles northeast of Montgomery. Talladega is about 20 miles northeast, while Childersburg is approximately 10 miles northwest of Sylacauga. The city is located at 33.1732° North latitude and 86.2516° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 12,578 residents. Sylacauga covers about 20.40 square miles, or approximately 52.84 square kilometers. The surrounding landscape includes wooded hills, limestone and marble deposits, streams, and rural farmland. Sylacauga has been famous for its white marble since the 19th century, and the local marble industry played an important role in the city's growth. DeSoto Caverns, located nearby, features large underground chambers and geological formations. The city is also home to a major Blue Bell ice cream production facility.
