Toppenish is a city located in Yakima County, Washington, the United States. It lies in the lower Yakima Valley of south-central Washington, about 20 miles southwest of Yakima and roughly 40 miles northwest of Prosser. Zillah is about 15 miles east, while Wapato is approximately 10 miles northeast of Toppenish. The city is located at 46.3771° North latitude and 120.3081° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,238 residents. Toppenish covers about 2.80 square miles, or approximately 7.25 square kilometers. The surrounding landscape includes irrigated farmland, orchards, vineyards, hop fields, and dry hills typical of the Yakima Valley. Toppenish is closely connected with the Yakama Nation, whose reservation surrounds much of the area. The city is especially known for its extensive collection of outdoor murals, which depict local history, Native American culture, agriculture, and community life.
