Union Gap is a city located in Yakima County, Washington, the United States. It lies immediately south of Yakima in the central part of the Yakima Valley, about 145 miles southeast of Seattle and roughly 75 miles northeast of the Tri-Cities. Yakima is about 3 miles north, while Wapato is approximately 15 miles west of Union Gap. Sunnyside is about 35 miles southeast. The city is located at approximately 46.5607° North latitude and 120.4759° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,671 residents. Union Gap covers about 5.37 square miles, or approximately 13.91 square kilometers. The surrounding landscape includes orchards, vineyards, agricultural fields, dry hills, and the Yakima River valley. The city developed around an important transportation corridor through a natural gap in the surrounding hills, which gave Union Gap its name.
