Wayne is a city located in Wayne County, Michigan, the United States. It is in southeastern Michigan, about 20 miles southwest of downtown Detroit, 10 miles west of Dearborn, and approximately 15 miles southeast of Ann Arbor. Wayne lies at about 42.281° North latitude and 83.386° West longitude. The city had 17,030 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 6.02 square miles, or 15.59 square kilometers. Wayne was settled in the early 19th century and developed as a farming and transportation community before becoming closely tied to the growth of the Detroit area's automobile industry. The Rouge River runs through the city and is an important geographic feature. Wayne's historic downtown contains older commercial buildings and civic landmarks that reflect its long development.
