Zeeland is a city located in Ottawa County, Michigan, the United States. It is in western Michigan, about 7 miles southeast of Holland, 30 miles southwest of Grand Rapids, and approximately 20 miles northwest of Allegan. Zeeland lies at approximately 42.812° North latitude and 86.018° West longitude. The city had 5,719 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 3.01 square miles, or 7.80 square kilometers. Zeeland was settled by Dutch immigrants in 1847 and incorporated as a city in 1901. The community was named after the Zeeland province of the Netherlands, reflecting the heritage of many of its early settlers. Agriculture played an important role in Zeeland's early economy, while furniture manufacturing and other industries later became major parts of the local economy.
