The city is situated along the Kalamazoo River in western Michigan, approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of Grand Rapids, 30 miles (48 km) west of Kalamazoo, and about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Holland. Allegan is located at 42.5292° North latitude and 85.8553° West longitude. According to the 2020 United States Census, the city had a population of 5,248.
